Here I will focus on full-reference metrics, as these are often employed in tuning image processing algorithms.
They are categorized as: full-reference (FR), no-reference (NR), and reduced-reference (RR) methods. In FR image quality assessment methods, the quality of a test image is evaluated by comparing it with a reference image which is assumed to have perfect quality.
