What is sharpness in resolution?
Resolution and sharpness are two different beasts. Sharpness can be subjective and the perception of sharpness is influenced by a handful of factors like aperture, depth of field, shutter speed, lens resolution, and camera sensors. It has a lot to do with contrast too, especially along the edges of objects in a frame.
Resolution refers to the amount of pixels or lines that your camera can capture per inch or per degree. It determines how much detail and information your image can contain. Sharpness refers to the contrast and clarity of the edges and contours in your image.
When you push the sharpness to the extremes, it distorts the picture quality. When the sharpness level is at 50-60%, it softens the gaming images. Most monitors come with the correct sharpness settings to avoid under or over-sharpening.
Movies typically look better when sharpness is turned down and the pixels are allowed to blur together a bit. On the other hand, a computer display would want high sharpness for clear text and sharp images. Video games are another example where higher sharpness is better.
People tend to judge images with higher acutance as being sharper, even though this is not necessarily associated with higher resolution. By increasing tonal differences along edges in an image, we can make it appear sharper, even though the actual resolution of the image may be reduced.
The term sharpness describes the overall clarity of a computer display's picture or text. Commonly, the more sharp an image, text, or display is, the better it looks. For example, a printer that prints at 72 DPI has a lot less sharpness than 300 DPI.
Sharpness: Set at 0%
Of course, you want the images on your TV to be sharp, but most movies and TV shows are already sharp enough. So, you want to set the sharpness value to be fairly low. Depending on what TV you have, you should set your sharpness to 0% or anything under 50%.
With most TVs, it actually masks fine detail. That means when your sharpness is set too high, you could lose some of the crisp detail possible on that new TV. In some cases, the best sharpness setting is actually zero, while on most TVs the setting is best in the bottom 20% or so.

Almost all TV's and projectors have at least a sharpness control. Setting this level to mid point or low is generally safer than putting it too high as an overly sharp image is generally much more distracting and annoying to watch than a slightly-under or normal sharpness setting.
Does sharpness increase brightness?
As we can see the sharpening tool only increases the contrast on the edge, the brighter side of the edge becomes brighter and the darker side darker, but the constrast of the whole picture is not affected.
Click Start, and then click Control Panel. In the Control Panel window, click Appearance and Themes, and then click Display. In the Display Properties window, click the Settings tab. Under Screen resolution, click and drag the horizontal slider control to change the screen resolution, and then click Apply.

Sharpening during post-processing basically cranks up the contrast and in the process produces a sharper image. But when you overdo the sharpening, your subject will start to look noisy as image artifacts creep in.
Sharpening can help make it look crisp and clear by enhancing the edges of objects in the image. However, adding too much sharpness can actually make an image look worse, or it can lead to a loss in image detail. As you can see, the right amount of sharpness makes the photo look crisp.
You can tell if the sharpness control is set too high because the background will start to look grainy, and halos will appear around the edges of objects, making the overall image appear less natural.
A higher resolution signifies the picture contains more pixels, which means it can display more visual information. As a result, a high-resolution picture is sharper and clearer than a low-resolution one.
High resolution images are pictures or photos where the media has higher concentrations of pixels or dots, resulting in better quality and clarity of the image – as it contains more detail. By contrast, images with lower resolutions tend to have fewer pixels or dots and thus less detail.
For example, the Sharpen filter can increase the edge definition and detail of your video, while the Smooth filter can reduce the noise and graininess. The Denoise filter can remove or reduce the unwanted noise and specks, and the Deblur filter can correct or reduce the motion blur or camera shake.
If you're working with video on an LCD monitor, the recommended white point is 6500K or D65. This is also known as the native temperature of your monitor. If you're working with still images that you plan to print, the white point of 5000K (D50) is recommended, as it looks more like white on paper.
This is the difference in the bright and dark areas of the image. If the contrast is high, the image looks lively; conversely, if the contrast is low, the image looks flat and monotonous. This is the image's clarity. The higher the sharpness, the more distinct the subject's contours will be.
Does sharpness increase FPS?
So while image sharpening can be part of a process to increase fps, by itself it doesn't do that. The availability of dynamic texture resolution depends on the game. Quite a few newer games have some form of it, but you won't find it in most older games.
Sharpness setting doesn't add input lag.
Images tend to look better on displays with a high contrast ratio, as blacks are really black, and whites are really white. It's mainly noticeable in a dark room, especially when watching videos or playing games. It can also be noticeable on a PC if you choose to use a dark mode.
However here's the problem with this setting; setting it too high can actually decrease picture quality since it can make it harder to actually discern specific details in an image. You'll notice how much the image changes depending on how high or low the setting is.
Sharpness can add a weird halo (or ghosting) effect to all visible edges. If sharpness settings are available, the best number for TV sharpness is zero percent for gaming and movies. The best TV color setting for gaming is 50 percent. This setting will avoid potentially bizarre filters built into games.
Super Resolution makes lower resolution (lower than 4K) videos sharper and clearer on 4K resolution or higher televisions.
Higher resolutions mean that there more pixels per inch (PPI), resulting in more pixel information and creating a high-quality, crisp image. Images with lower resolutions have fewer pixels, and if those few pixels are too large (usually when an image is stretched), they can become visible like the image below.
Image sharpness can be measured by the “rise distance” of an edge within the image. With this technique, sharpness can be determined by the distance of a pixel level between 10% to 90% of its final value (also called 10-90% rise distance; see Figure 3).
